In most communities and villages of India, age old practices have been recognized as the primary obstacles to growth and development. Practices such as child marriages, sati, the purdah system, female infanticide, alcoholism amongst the male family members, honour killing, and the dowry system among others are still rampant in many villages and regions of India. These practices inhibit the members of these communities, including men, women and children from being aware of, and exercising, their basic rights to study, earn, share their concerns and opinions, and live a fulfilled life. As a result, the educational, health, and economic progress of these regions is hampered.
HCDI, in association with its many volunteers and employees, work within these villages and communities to eradicate these ancient practices that hinder growth. We undertake campaigns that are community action programs aimed at creating awareness to an entire village, community, or block of villages.
The campaigns undertaken are implemented in the form of public meetings or rallies. These require that people from multiple villages assemble together, leaving behind their earnings for a few days. Providing food and shelter for the duration of the meeting or rally is one of the prime components of these campaigns as, with such basic needs taken care of, people are more receptive to the information and knowledge provided.
The funds that we receive for our campaigns help us decide the number of campaigns we can implement during one year. Your donations and contributions can go a long way in helping us carry out a larger number of campaigns, thereby spreading awareness and information that leads to greater growth and development.
There is no minimum or maximum amount that you must contribute to the campaign fund. Neither is there a specific period for which you are required to contribute. Your donation can be of any amount and for any period. Any contributions allotted to our campaign funds will be utilized to implement the most number of campaigns in a year.
