Our Approach

Holistic Child Development India (HCDI) has a very clear mandate on the well being of the children of our Nation with special focus of children belonging to the poverty stricken and the downtrodden families of rural and tribal areas. HCDI’s Child focused approach aims to improve the quality of a child’s life in its own environment in a four pronged manner.

Firstly, apart from addressing the needs of children it facilitates children’s, their families and communities participation in the development process.  Secondly, it promotes rights, interests and dignity of children.  Meanwhile strengthening the capacity of their families and communities.  Finally it induces them to mobilize resources, through networking and linkages, as much as possible from within the community, the government and other NGOs.  Though the approach is child centered, it recognizes the fact that families and communities can meet their responsibilities towards their children fully and better when their own capacity to address their needs and rights are also addressed.

HCDI’s work ethos is firmly based on the foundations set forth in the fundamental rights of children as expressed in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.  The child focused approach therefore aims to support children to realise these rights through:

creation of awareness and understanding of children’s rights
motivating and providing an environment for children to participate in
their own development through Child Parliaments and Self Governance
understand children’s needs and aspirations by giving them opportunities to
express themselves confidently and courageously
provide opportunities for children to take part in policy discussions at village level,
block level and at district and national alongside community members,
leaders and partners

HCDI as part of its child focused approach has been responding as a priority to the rising incidence of child labour, child trafficking and other violence against children. Child protection committees have been created to monitor children's well being and protect them in every village consisting of community leaders, especially women, children, and leaders from Panchayat. They are tasked with making sure that children in the community are safe and secure from abuse, trafficking, violence and are educated and protected.

HCDI through its partners adopt this approach through development programmes in different types of Projects such as:

1.   Child Focused Community Development Projects
2.   Children at High Risk Projects
3.   Residential Child Care Projects
4.   Vocational training centers

5. Disaster mitigation and management projects

Our Funding Partners

Kindernothilfe Kindernothilfe (KNH) was founded in1959 by a group of dedicated Christians in Duisburg, Germany, in order to help needy children in India. Over time, it has become one of the largest Christian organizations in Europe for children's aid. Today it supports more than 300.000 children
and young people in 27 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. KNH aims to give needy children in the poorest countries of the world a chance to a good start in life. That means a basic school education and vocational training, good nutrition and health care, as well as community-oriented support to the families of the children.

KNH has its Head office in Duisburg. KNH is a registered charitable organization and a member of the Diaconic Services of the Evangelical Church in Germany. More than 90 percent of the work is financed through donations from 100000 people who support Kindernothilfe. KNH receives subsidies from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ) and from the European Union as well as church grants.
